Back in commission

After a long time of not being here on the site, I am just putting a small update here. It is nearing Christmas and it is still hectic but I will get through it.
Work has been keeping me busy so that explains my lack of updates here.

The new system that I am working on with a few friends is well under way. It should be ready for release in January. I will update this site once I get more information on that.

Gaming is at a stand still as of late. I am just working on getting Christmas out of the way, then I will most likely pick up the joy stick again.

Well, until After Christmas, I am signing out.

Updates for this week

Busy week. Not a fun one, but what can I do right? Anyways, I have finished the work on iPicStorage and it is up and running. I am still working on the PasteBin Equivalent for iSecForce and I do not know how long that will take. It will be a Code Bin for people to share code and I am planning on having it all work wonders. The team for the coding are great. We are hoping to have this completed before October, however, I do not know what time it will be released. The crew is great and I hope we all work together and get the information needed done.

The site will be set up in a few sections. There will be a Bin for Code where people will be able to share their code and others will be able to work with it on the site. There will be a location for the admin team to blog their ideas on all subjects. There will be a RSS Aggregator that will pull feeds of top security sites and bring them into one central location. There will be a White Page Publication section where admins will be able to publish their white papers for the world to read in PDF format. That is all I have in mind right now, but please stay tuned for further updates.

Site Updates and CMS testing

I have recently updated many aspects of the system that runs erikwestlake.com. Nothing major, just updated most of the text on the site, along with some of the minor visual tweaks.

Today, just now I made public the changes to the family business' web site (www.westlakeind.com) and hope it is a huge success.
Another note is that Westlake Industries Inc. has hit the Profit Magazine Hot Profit 50 list for 2009. Placing in a nice 12th overall, we are very happy with this news. Check the site to see the news bulletin on this.

Redesign of iSecForce is underway now. I have been playing around in Content Management Systems for the new updated site and have the following to say about a handful of the ones I have tested.

The first system I tested was Typo3. At first glance it seems good and all, however, it is very cumbersome and hard to figure out all the administration navigation. My opinion on this system is that it is an administrators nightmare, but that is just me. I would give this software a rank of 3/10.
The next one I worked with was SilverStripe. This system is great, but again, difficult to figure out all the administration package. I could not figure out how to add Forums, Blogs, or anything other than pages. Even after reading through their entire help system I could not figure out why nothing was working. I could not even get the title of the system changed without hacking the database. Not to mention the fact that you need 64M of Memory Cache for the system to run properly. I would say this software ranked a 4/10.
Following SilverStripe, I attempted miaCMS. I found this a very nice system to work with, some of the navigation could be better, but again, I am a nut for documentation. After playing with it for a little bit I dropped it and moved on to another system. I would have to give this software a 6/10.
Next, I did a system I have worked with in the past. Drupal. I find this software simple to use, and the ability to add modules and themes on the fly is great. It has awesome documentation for both ends of the system too. I think this will be the temporary system for iSecForce once I get all the guys on board. This software leaves me a little warm and fuzzy feeling so I would rank it 9/10.

If you disagree with any of my comments here, please let me know, I would love to hear your opinions on this.

Signing off for the time,

Back to the grind

After eight days at the cottage, I am back.

The cottage was awesome...spent the days relaxing and more! Took everyone out tubing a few times, boat rides, ATV rides, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, playing on the beach and a couple of day trips.

The pies are to die for, and the trip to the French River Trading Post was the best day out! We also went to Santa's Village for one day, the kids loved it. My Facebook page has the pictures from the trip.

Well back to the grind now, I will check in when I have time.

Cottage Life and General Life

Life has been very hectic as of late. Work is busting in the Estimating right now so I am busy with that and hours are not always fun spent :P

My Daughters Soccer went well...the Final game they won 3-0 so I am happy about that. She even nearly got a goal. She was happy that it just missed the post. I was amazed by her progress this year. Her skill with the ball is awesome. Once she gets everything in order she will be a killer player next year!
She starts Piano in September too...6 days a week of tinkling the ivory for her :) She will be a master in no time ;)
She makes me very proud of her all the time. She teaches herself songs on our piano, and is starting to transfer her recorder numbers to the ivory as well.

Now lets speak of the youngest one ;)
She is bustling like there is no tomorrow. She is a handful that is for sure. She is smart as a whip as well! Talking up a storm and running all over the place. She even knows the words to a few songs and sings with them! She is a spitting image of me when I was a kid as well...She is going to be trouble just like her sister when she gets older :P

Gaming, has been at a stand still as of late, I started playing Final Fantasy VII because I missed it. I played Legend of Mana then it crashed on my PS3  so I stopped with that game. I should get back to playing Devil May Cry 4 and I will eventually too. All my UOWoW characters are level 80 so I am good on that front, now I just need more gold to buy them all the gear they need :P

The dog has been gone for some time now too. We miss him greatly, and with this coming vacation week we will miss him even more, as he will not be joining us at the cottage :( But, life goes on and so must we!

Next week will be filled with a few minor things, the best of which will be NO WORK! lol
I will be lounging at the cottage for eight days and relaxing. Fishing, Boating, Drinking, Day Trips, Lots of food...What else can one ask for? The trek starts tomorrow where we will be heading up with two cars and hope that the weather and traffic is not too bad for us.

Anyways, Signing off for now I will say that some of my other sites are being worked on and I hope to have them all operational before 2010. Bye for now all...
